Saying yes, even when the answer is No

India Gate
Saying Yes Even When the Answer Is No - When we ask for directions, people will often send us in the wrong direction rather than admit they don't know the way. Try not to ask questions that require a yes or no answer, because we will almost always only hear yes.

In other words, rather than ask, "Is this the way to the India Gate?" try, "Can you tell me the way to the India Gate?" If the person seems hesitant when giving you directions, verify that you are going the right way by asking someone else a few minutes down the road.        From: Frommer's India

  1. LOL, This one is hilarious. So true though. I knew it. It's just cultural thing. People don't realize how their answer will can change the whole scenario. Not only with direction, there are so many other things where the answer should be "Yes" but they will just say "No". For example, if you visit to your friends house and they ask you if you are hungry or if you would like to have a cup of tea. People usually answer, "No" when actually they are hungry or they want to have a cup to tea. Because of this uncertainty, we usually ask our guests few times if they would want to have something to eat. After asking few times, we will force them to have something to eat and a cup of tea later even if they truly didn't want it....Hehehe
