Tips from the Lonely Planet

Chaotic, bamboozling, intoxicating, crazy, exasperating, squalid, daunting, overwhelming, India promises to be all these things, and more.

We are to avoid tap water, and any food that may have been washed in it. We are to have no ice, no salads and no fruit we haven't just peeled ourselves.
Many travellers go veggie while in India. A dodgy bit of meat will do us a lot more harm than slightly undercooked vegetables. Plus, many Indians are vegetarian, so there's a fabulous choice of vegetarian food. If we do eat meat, we need to be sure it's well cooked.
Toilets are notoriously bad in India, but they don't have to be health hazards.  We need to remember  to carry soap with us so we can wash our hands.

  1. Just remember that you may be washing your hands in contaminated water. I do not like those little bottles of hand sterilizer, but this might be a time and place for them!
